Gomer Press have been operating Aster sewing machines at their Llandysul West Wales factory  for many years. As the business has continued to grow in the soft and hard cover book production market the demand for sewing has also seen a significant growth in demand.

In particular Gomer were looking for  an economic solution to add extra sewing capacity during peak production periods. Managing Director, Jonathan Lewis, chose the Aster EL (Entry Level) as the perfect support machine for the existing Aster Pro which had provided excellent results for many years.

Providing the same basic features and engineering quality as larger models the Aster EL would dovetail perfectly into the production facility at Llandysul. At speeds of up to 10,000 cycles/hour it is the quickest entry level machine and most competitive in terms of operating cost and energy efficiency. Although compact the Aster EL has a product size range from 150mm x 75mm right up to 420mm x 320mm.

Jonathan Lewis said: “The Aster EL provided the perfect production solution, capable of producing all mainstream book production, releasing the Aster Pro for more technical book production and longer runs lengths. Although with a top speed of 10,000 cycles per hour we are very pleased with the output of the new machine”.

Greg Bird, Kolbus UK managing director, said: “The EL version of the respected Aster sewing machine range is a great allrounder with a very competitive price for a high-quality sewing solution and supports the Aster Evo, Pro, Big and Top versions of the machine. In particular its automatic variable speed during the book cycle gives maximum production rate, especially with mixed signatures, along with the possibility of digital camera signature recognition providing total job integrity ”.
